Want to know the colonel's secret?

2

William Poundstone's new Book - Big Secrets puts all the 'Secret Recipes' to the lab and found out exactly what was in them.

Colonel Sanders of KFC has always claimed that his recipe contained 11 secret herbs and spices but lab tests indicate that there are only four ingredients in the mix. Why don't you guess what they are before you read on.

Coca Cola's secret recipe was also uncovered by by the author and he lists them in detail. This recipe is a lot more complex and would take even a good food technologist some time to replicate, especially without a good chef or taster correcting the mix.

Below is an extract from a report in LiveScience

The Truth Behind Secret Recipes in Coke, KFC, Etc.

"Everybody loves secrets, mystery, and intrigue. That's why mystery novels and films have been popular for decades, and why shows like "The X-Files" and "Lost" are cult hits.

The commercial appeal of a good mystery (real or manufactured) has not been lost on advertisers. "Mystery meat" aside, several famous brands have emphasized the uniqueness of their secret-ingredient-containing products.

But is there really any such thing as a "secret ingredient" these days? After all, over the past decade consumers have gotten more and more disclosure about what's in the food they eat-- everything from calorie content to food allergy information. Furthermore, laboratory analysis has kept up with the times. Perhaps when A.J. Bush baked his first recipe in 1908, or when the Coca-Cola company was founded in 1892, there was no way to determine what "secret ingredients" might be in a product.

But these days, any laboratory worth its sodium chloride can tell pretty much what chemicals and ingredients appear in what quantities of a given sample. It's food science, not rocket science.

In his book "Big Secrets," William Poundstone revealed a laboratory analysis of Kentucky Fried Chicken: "The sample of coating mix was found to contain four and only four ingredients: flour, salt, monosodium glutamate, and black pepper. There were no eleven herbs and spices — no herbs at all in fact... Nothing was found in the sample that couldn't be identified." So much for the "secret." In fact, the chicken's ingredient statement is available on KFC's Web site.

As for Coke Classic, well, the formula can be found on page 43 of Poundstone's book, but it includes vanilla extract, citrus oils, and lime juice flavoring.

There's no cocaine in Coke, and technically there never was, though it uses coca leaves and kola nuts as flavorings and stimulants. Cocaine is not the same as the coca leaf it is derived from; for centuries, natives in South American countries regularly chewed on the coca leaf for its anesthetic and mild stimulant properties. But just as chewing on a coca leaf is not "taking cocaine," neither is drinking a Coke."

Things our kids will never know they never knew

0
Such is the pace of technology that things that we learned and cherished during our lifetime are obsolete and considered ancient tech by our kids..

Wired magazine came up with a list of 100 things our kids will never know.

I think this list is telling about the speed of progress and also where our priorities lie..

Would it not be nice if the things our kids will never know were to include

1. Worrying about how to pay for college education
2. Fear of global war
3. Hate crime
4. Credit cards
5. cigarette smoke

There are some things in this world that will never be forgotten, this week’s 40th anniversary of the moon landing for one. But Moore’s Law and our ever-increasing quest for simpler, smaller, faster and better widgets and thingamabobs will always ensure that some of the technology we grew up with will not be passed down the line to the next generation of geeks.

That is, of course, unless we tell them all about the good old days of modems and typewriters, slide rules and encyclopedias …

Perodua waves farewell to the Kancil

Favourite model is replaced by Viva 660BX

After a long run of 15 good years, the Kancil is finally to be replaced and the model that will take the mantle is the Viva 660 in bare bones trim.

Thanks to the extremely basic equipment level, the Viva 660BX is only RM2,000 more than Kancil it replaces.

OK so it may be basic but you still get a DVVT motor, more modern and rigid body shell and advanced fuel injection system.

Proton launches new brand-building campaign

Owners are turned into Mini Ambassadors through positive experience at Proton

It is a simple enough plan, invite owners to the plant to receive their cars, give them a tour of the facilities and let them loose for an hour or so on the test track and impress them with the skills of Proton test drivers in a Lotus Elise.

Hopefully they leave impressed and share the positive experience with their family, friends and neighbours.

If the initial reaction of the first group of customers is anything to go by, the plan seems to be working a treat

STREES PERLU UBAT KE?

0
Jiwa Kacau

•Ketidakupayaan memenuhi tuntutan persekitaran.
•Gangguan fungsi kehidupan

Sian diorg tu. Kalau laa diaorg tu sama besar ngan ko dan boleh melawan tak pa laaa. Boleh laa tengok sapa yg kena.Ingat-ingatla pada tuhan. Dapatkan ketenangan diri daripadaNya. Amin..
Jom Poker………

main game jer...

Movie Review - Transformers : Revenge of The Fallen

Autobots, transform and roll out!

Those were the words that i remember the most from the Transformers cartoon series when i was a kid. I had small miniature Transformer action figures (the big ones was expensive) and I have never failed to watch every episode of it, and i even i bought the last original transformers movie on VHS! At least, i thought it was the last one. So when i heard that Micheal Bay, director of many blockbusters such as Bad Boys, The Rock was planning to direct a movie based on the hit cartoon series, i was in awe. Transformers. Coming back to life, in real life, in cinemas.

Wow.

When the movie came out, i could not get a chance to see it until a few weeks of its release. But the wait was well worth it. It blew my mind, and everyone else. The CGI was astonishing, and storyline was well crafted, though the robot characters was slightly different than i thought it would be. I even got so excited, i bought the DVD! But when the movie ended, i was partly sad and curious. The ending did not show a slight hint of a sequel, but i was really, really hoping for one. I wanted a sequel where all the Transformers i knew to be in a sequel. Soundwave, the Constructicons, everything.

And they did.

Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen. Wuhoo! A sequel! Micheal Bay, an avid Transformers fan, made the sequel even better. I got two tickets for me and the Mrs at a non THX cinema, but i could not care less, to be honest. When Bumblebee first came/transformed out in the first scene, i was transformed into a kid again.
The sequel is about the revenge of the Fallen, the only remaining Decepticon leaders stuck in Decepticon planet (which the movie failed to mention the name) with a mission to destroy the Autobots on earth by resurrecting Megatron, who died in the first movie while the Autobots, working together with a special, undercover US Army unit called N.E.S.T on missions to hunt down and destroy the remaining Decepticons on earth.
Sam Witwicky, the Autobots' human friend is enrolling in to college, but decided to leave his trusty robot friend, Bumblebee and cute girlfriend, Mikaela behind.(I'd probably leave Bee behind, but Mikaela??) On his first day in college, Sam found a piece of The Cube in one of his jacket (washing machine resistant i assume) and the piece started to interfere with his brainwave or something, making him see jumbled up codes he doesnt understand at the same time turning him into a boy genius (he could read an astronomy college text book in a few minutes).
For some reason, the Decepticons are now searching for that piece of Cube, and found that it is with Sam, (Surprise!) though i would rather it be with Mikaela, so she could be strip searched. And the chase/hunt/destroying begins!
The sequel is better in CGI, but i found the robot characters made less intelligent this time. Bumblebee is made into a pet for Sam, there are two new Autobot twins that speaks like they are thugs from Brooklyn, New York. It was (the sequel) as if they made it to please everyone, especially the Paramount Pictures top management, desperately. No wonder the movie got bad reviews from the major critics (read here and here.)Yes, the CGI was mind blowing, and seeing a Transformer in a movie beats everything else, but it shadowed everything human about the movie.
Nevertheless, there are some cool stuff you can find on the official movie website like Robotize yourself,(yes, you can upload your photo and merge it with a robot from the movie)and check out awesome Transformers toys, news and reviews here.I posted mine on Facebook.Heh.
